NEW YORK - The Dominican entrepreneur Dilcia Granville became the first Dominican inventor to patent and market the product American Dip & See, the only portable indicator of sugar in the drink.

The idea came up when a friend fell into diabetic coma for three months, after a drink in a restaurant where he had been assured that it contained no sugar.

The friend told Granville: "You can believe that in this market so much of the United States, not a single instrument indicating the sugar in the drink you're going to take?".

"I questioned I could not believe that there was a portable instrument that measures the sugar to help diabetics and people with obesity problems, but after investigating I found that I had not," said Granville.

While Granville has a doctorate in philosophy and science is not their field, preparing led her to study and investigate how to invent Dip & See, until he discovered that was not so complicated and made it.

Dominican inventor in the United States said more than 10 million people with diabetes and more than 57 million are unaware they have it, and among them there are many who suffer from diabetes and therefore critical need to avoid sugar consumption .

"In the market there are many drinks that people typically do not know that they have added sugar," said Granville. "With this product, people can know whether a drink containing sugar before you take it," he said.

Once invented product, Granville revealed that the most difficult was to open your business.

"I felt alone. When I went to the chambers of commerce, I was with established entrepreneurs who were looking to expand their businesses, not start them," said Granville. "I was looking for information on how to patent my product, register the mark, establish myself as a businesswoman."

The inventor said that the answers to your questions got on the Internet, visiting sites around the world.

"Everything is very complicated. I think there should be an agency dedicated to helping Latina women with a talent for invention. So I created the Women's Council Dominicans, to give advice and help women start a business, "said Granville. "The aid is widely dispersed, there is a hotline," he added.

The entrepreneur said he invented Dominican Dip & See in 2007, and last week the retail chain Walmart contacted her to see if they put their invention on the market.

"I'm ready for it, I'm very happy. It is hard work and you must call on many doors to get it. I am very proud to be the first inventor Dominican and hope that the talented women to draw their ideas and inventions are launched to implement them, "said Granville.
